SMSC - Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development
At Hillside Primary School learning is our number one priority, as such we include Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development to ensure we have a holistic approach to learning across the school.
Our SMSC Priorities:
- Celebrate the way Hillside incorporates SMSC development into learning.
- Develop an effective recording system to monitor SMSC development across the school.
- Devise new and exciting strategies and experiences to tailor our SMSC provision to the needs, interests and aspirations of our pupils.
What is SMSC?
SMSC stands for Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development.
Spiritual development includes:
- Exploring beliefs, faiths and experiences and having respect for them.
- Examine feelings and values.
- Learning about oneself, other and the surrounding world.
- Using our creativity and imaginations.
- Being able to reflect.
Moral development includes:
- Recognising right and wrong.
- Understanding and respecting the law.
- Understanding consequences.
- Investigating moral and ethical issues.
- Offering reasons views and opinions.
Social development includes:
- Investigating and moral issues.
- Investigate and appreciate diverse viewpoints.
- Participate, volunteer and cooperate.
- Resolving conflicts
- Engaging with fundamental values of British democracy.
Cultural development includes:
- Appreciate cultural influences.
- Appreciate the role of Britain’s parliamentary system.
- Participate in culture opportunities.
- Understand, accept, respect and celebrate diversity.
